This was an okay read aloud for my classroom. The students had a hard time getting into this story and for the first few days asked for me to ditch it, but we stuck with the book and it was a fine read. This book has a mystery that was fun to follow along with, but the ending tied things up too quickly. Many of the 7th graders in my building were reading this book so maybe it is for an older crowd.

A fantastic read for both boys and girls!!! Finding Mighty tells the story of twelve year old neighbors Myla and Peter, who search for the link between Myla’s necklace and the disappearance of Peter’s brother, Randall. There are lots of interesting worlds explored here, graffiti and parkour among them. It also takes place in New York City and the suburb of Dobbs Ferry, NY which might be exciting for local readers. On the search for Randall, Myla and Peter both find themselves on the edge of danger which makes this book a real page-turner, but Chari doesn't just stay on the surface. Complex and diverse characters, friendships, and family bonds are all at work here in another great mystery by Sheela Chari!

Sheela Chari has done it again. Finding Mighty was a very engaging read, with plot twists and a web of events that are gradually revealed along the way. The characters are well-developed, with insights into their thoughts and motivations as they each try to figure out their piece of the puzzle and who they can trust among the other characters. I could not put it down!

New York sixth grader and Indian American Myla (no one can pronounce her actual name) dreams of being noticed…she’s short, and doesn’t see anything remarkable in herself. Mixed-race Peter just wants to hang out with his older brother Randall since their mother is busy (when she’s not nervous about something) and their father has been dead for years. Myla buys a necklace with an Om (Sanskrit letter) on it hoping it will draw attention, and a creepy guy tries to get it back from her. Peter’s brother vanishes…and then their mother insists they move AGAIN. Parallel mysteries narrated by the two main characters intersect as the two meet and (slowly) learn to trust each other. What does the Om necklace have to do with the graffiti Om tags appearing around New York & suburbs? How does that tie in to Randall’s disappearance? And does any of this have anything to do with Peter’s father’s death or the diamonds his grandmother is reported to have helped to steal? Sheela Chari’s second mystery is as intriguing as her Edgar-award nominated first mystery Vanished. Very realistic, intelligent, urban middle-classed tween characters people (and solve) this page-turning mystery. Well worth every young mystery reader’s time.(Hmm, you say, a sentence in that review sounds very familiar after at look at the book jacket...wonder why... :-)

Awesome to work with

Let’s first start off by saying that the book Finding Mighty written by Sheela Chari is a mysterious and crazy book. This book is filled with multiple different details and obstacles that the characters have to travel through. Throughout the book the characters are stuck finding out who Mighty is or where he is staying. Randall aka Mighty’s brother, Peter, meets a girl, Myla, at school and she is then involved in his messed up family life. Mighty has always wanted to follow in his dad’s footsteps after his father died. Also the chapters are in different character’s point of views, so one chapter can be Myla’s point of view as if she is telling the chapter. Then the next one can be told by Peter or Randall. There are many main characters with many different personalities. One main character is Myla, she is very curious throughout the whole book. She is always wondering what is going on and what the whole diamond thing is about. Myla even read Randall’s black book just so she can find out what the tagging was all about. The second main character is Peter, he is also curious, he can also be very outgoing. He is always trying to follow Randall on his runs; once Peter was following Randall and he caught him jumping along the railroad tracks. The last main character is Randall. Randall is always a follower and is always trying to follow in his dad’s footsteps. He is trying to tag just like his dad, and he even took his dad’s tag for himself. He did this so that his dad’s tag would stay around. I like this book and everything, but the thing is that it isn’t kinda predictable once you start reading it. If you like mysteries you can read this book, but if you like more books that are a surprise in most parts then go reach for this book.

What starts at a misunderstanding at school, ends up bringing twelve-year-olds Myla and Peter together to solve the disappearance of Peter's brother, Randall and the connection it has to Myla's missing necklace. As Myla and Peter follow the graffiti trail left behind by Randall, they discover family secrets that involve stolen diamonds, mysterious deaths, and a dangerous gang who will stop at nothing to find Randall and the hidden diamonds.Story alternates between first person which gives greater insight to Myla, Peter and Randall thoughts and actions. The backdrop of New York and Dobb's Ferry with the emphasis on graffiti art will strike a cord to inner city youth. While the plot feels contrived at times, the action takes has the reader anxiously running with the characters through darkened streets, hoping they can dodge not only shady gang members but also cops. A solid mystery for the middle school reader.Review as it originally appears on my blog, Boys To Books.

Logan & Amelia met in college. She was the younger of the pair & sparks flew whenever they clashed. Logan moved away but never really forgot Amelia. Years later, Amelia is stunned to find that Logan is a major client of the firm she works for. To her further horror, Amelia is assigned to work closely with Logan on his project. That entails moving into his home, along with her ginger cat Marmalade( I LOVED this cat!). Amelia finds Logan has a young daughter from a previous marriage who is disabled. The child & the cat fall instantly in love with each other. Things are going fine until the daughter's mother pops up unannounced. Needless to say, she's a real BITCH & a very un motherly person too. Marmalade the cat takes an instant dislike to the girl's mother & uses every opportunity to take a swipe at her. This is rather a sweet romance of unrequited love. A good book for Helen Brooks fans too!

I'm reluctant to be the "first reviewer" of a kindle book. And I'm learning - if a book that's been out for awhile doesn't inspire reviews, it's perhaps because it doesn't inspire sales. Or passion. Part of my learning curve involves, stupidly, buying books like these - a decades old re-release, or a book that's been out for a couple years, w/ no reviews (or just one, Incredibly Positive, *Almost Unbelievable*!, review). As an easy mark for books like that, should I leave an accurate mediocre review, or leave well enough alone? The only guide I can follow is what I wish another reviewer had left for me."Lace & Satin" was apparently first released a couple decades ago in print, & a year ago for the kindle. It's a great example of books which don't provoke passion. Or even interest. It revolves around a great premise/boring execution/stupidly immature heroine/incessant introspection/uneven Hero/pitiful platitudes.Helen Brooks has written some really good books - "A Whirlwind Marriage" is my favorite, "The Mistress Contract" also - the characters from both these novels stay w/ me long after I read them. Ms. Brooks can write people & situations that are very touching & real. What a gift. This book, unfortunately, does not possess that vibrancy or display her gift :(.The heroine, Amelia/Melly is one of those transitional doormat-to-strong-woman leads, when apparently Harlequin/the author decided that any female who isn't weak, needy & desperate, has to be strident, bitchy & argumentative. Not to mention cold & uneven. Melly is so unlikeable, and so immature - Seriously, you're still emotionally crippled by a 6ish *hour* romantic interlude that happened to you 8 years ago? Seriously? Get some freakin' therapy, then get a life, girl - that I had absolutely no sympathy/identification/suspended disbelief with her. I didn't want her to end up with the hero, I wanted her to get over her 19 year old self, grow up, and *then* find a hero & HEA. When she was, like, 35 or 40.The hero - well, this is an observation I typically make about the heroine - Logan has such a weak character that you get whiplash trying to follow him. He's a womanizer, but he's celibate except for impregnating his wife w/ their child. He's cold & mocking, except when he's tender & gentle. He's remote & unapproachable, except when he's bringing your kitty cat to his house for boarding...or, of course, kissing you passionately with Deep Secrets in his eyes. He wants to Start All Over With You, except that his ex-wife is running wild around his house & his person.Ugh. And I'm not even to the incessant-internal-dialogue critiques. Or the platitudes - crippled child, omniscient cat (though, as a cat owner, I find that ominously realistic), evil ex-wife, loyal housekeeper...Ugh.It's boring. It's predictable, except that the characters are so uneven. And, as far I've read, none of her books should be Harlequin Presents - they are way too tame. This one certainly falls into that category. It's not sexy, there's no spark or interest between the two leads. There's no reason to read this book, it's so far below her best.

6 years ago 23 yr-old Logan Steer met 19 yr-old Amelia Higginbottom; she went to talk to him about a friend Lauren Grant, he had split with, the girl told Melly she really loved Logan and he was breaking her heart. It wasn't true, Lauren was sleeping with two men at the same time, and Logan didn't like that. But the moment he met Melly he fell in love. She was everything he ever wanted in a woman, only he came on too strong and ended up in bed with her. Had his previous guest had not returned he would have made love to her.Melly would never forgive Logan for causing her to lower her own standards. Now Logan is in partnership with the company Melly works for, and she has to not only work with him, but for him.Logan has never forgotten Melly, or his feelings for her, but he had an affair with a woman called Vanessa, when she ended up pregnant he married her. They had a little girl Dee(Alexandra), only she wasn't Logan's child, he found out when she needed a kidney and tests were done to see if he was a match, it proved he wasn't related to her at all. But Logan loves Dee and he would give anything to make her better.Because they were going to France, and they would be gone for 6 weeks, Melly had to find someone to take her cat Marmalade. Logan volunteered Dee to be the pet sitter. So Marmalade took over the romance, he not only loved little Dee, but he got Dee's cat Tabitha with kittens: after Marmalade vanquished Vanessa he brought Dee, Logan and Melly together. This is a sweet story, I am always a sucker for books with kids in them, and little Dee was such a darling, although as in most books she only shows up when the story has no choice but to bring her back into the book. From the back of the book: 'An adult affair. As a student, Logan Steer had been wildly and romantically attractive to female population...Now he was devastating! Melly knew Logan and his effect on women all too well, so she was determined to keep their business relationship just that-strictly business. What she didn't know was that her cat, Marmalade, had an altogether different view of things, and had made plans accordingly...!

This is the book to buy if you are trying to get your little ones involved in yoga. There are ten routines presented to enjoy with children between ages almost two and five. A chapter is devoted to how yoga can help you and your child. Very specific examples are given. Caricatures presented in the book explain the benefits of each pose, directions on how to demonstrate the poses, Words to say to your child when asking them to do the poses, how to use yoga poses in everyday life, how to incorporate educational activities into the yoga routine, and reference charts of poses at the end of each chapter. Also included are Super-Duper poses used to bring wandering children back to the yoga practice. I've used the book to engage my great granddaughter, who is under two into yoga, and I was pleasantly surprised at the results. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to start their child practicing yoga. Everything you will need to know is in this book. You need not have any experience with yoga to use this book.

My 25-month old LOVES to do yoga - it's become part of our bedtime routine every night and before naps. She does the moves amazingly well (just from watching me do them), and she names which ones she wants to do each night. We mix together the moves from 2-3 'routines'. It's great for the bedtime routine (whether we're burning excess energy or doing quiet ones), and it's been neat to see her enjoy moving her body. She now sometimes stretches into her own poses to see how they feel, just during normal play. I'd recommend this book for anyone - the illustrations are helpful, and the songs and presentation ideas are really helpful for keeping your little one's attention/interest, too. My toddler can do far more (and better) than I ever would have expected, so don't wait!

I purchased this book through amazon to use with my 2 (almost 3) year old daughter. She loves pulling out our yoga mat and doing the poses with me. It is a wonderful way for us to bond with eachother and spend some time together. The poses are easy enough for her to do well, and she feels proud of herself when I praise her for doing a great job. In the book, there is a picture of a child in each pose as well as an easy to understand description of how to do the pose. Each pose also has info from the child's point of view to tell you the benefits of that pose. There are different groupings of poses, so you can choose a routine specific for your child's needs, such as poses to do in the morning to stretch and wake the body, or poses that help a toddler having a tantrum, or poses to help your child build balance, etc. There are extra tips in each pose from Helen, the author in a section called "On the Go with Helen". I am finding the routines easy to remember after doing only one time. So I won't have to sit and stare at the book the whole time every time we do yoga. Once we get it down, we will just use it as a reference.

This is a great book for bonding with your children. I can't wait to break it open and start yoga with my 2 year old.

Gave to Pre K teacher and she really liked the book, She also works with children with special needs and wants to help them experience health and body. Will be of value in Winter when you cannot go out to play.

i bought this to have the follow up for itsy bitsy yoga for infants. it follows in the spirit of the first book and it does great. it doesn't say though how to slow down a toddler long enough for yoga but i guess i have to figure that one out. if you liked the first one, you'll like this one. save yourself the hassle and get the together if you can.

I bought this for my granddaughter and her toddler. I don't know if she's using it, but it is a really cute book. I love yoga for basic stretching and getting my body warmed up for exercising or stretching out the kinks when I've abused it all day sitting. And it looks a great mommy-child bonding experience.

as a yoga teacher, I need new resources - love that book
