I have now read both books in this series and I am really struggling to like them. Don't get me wrong: the sex scenes are hot. Very hot. My only problem here (and I really don't understand how it doesn't bother more readers) is the absolute terrible human being that is Lachlan Mount. *POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD* And I don't mean it because he is 'damaged' . No. It is because he is a murderer, a killer and an overall terrible person. And although Keira knows it, she does not question it a whole lot. She conveniently 'falls ' for the guy without much caring about how Lachlan works. Even if Lachlan redeems himself in the final book (out in december) I can not reconcile myself with the idea that a lovely person such as Keira falls in love for a horrible gangster such as Lachlan.
So we left off in Ruthless King where Keira’s dead husband is back- say whaaaat?I dove into Defiant Queen to get some details. Again. This author kept me enthralled in her story from cover to cover. I would like to declare that I have officially fallen in love with Lachlan so everyone can back off. (Heehee)Lachlan’s dominance stays true throughout the book with the minor cracks we want to see. It makes him lovable and not the beast he thinks he is. We also learn more about his story and everything he went through as a child. He has been a protector from the beginning. I really love when a dominant lead has a little back story to make him seem more human. Meghan did a great job at keeping me interested in him. A great “push and pullâ€, if you will.How Lachlan develops in this book is simply put as - delicious. I think there were times when I truly felt their connection. Tingle tingleKeira gets bombarded at the end of Ruthless King and we learn why in Defiant Queen.The dead ex is back.......She finds a box that tells her that it was LACHLAN that took her at the masquerade- Let me remind you that she married Brett because of the way he took her. Oh boy is this all messed up......The author stayed true to Keira and her character remained strong and self posed. I loved that Keira got to be this bad ass that knew her situation but still kept that chin up. A true Irish princess!So we learn that Lachlan has some sort of connection to Keira but we still don’t know how. I mean, How did he end up with the note that was meant for Brett? How did he know it was from her? When are we going to the damn answers?And the ending...... talk about a cliff hanger. Blood drips..... it drips and it goes- black :-/Good news- book three will be here in under two weeks so I won’t have to worry for too long. Whew.....There is sooooo much in book two, but again I am not a spoiler. Go read these books. You won’t regret it.I’m diggin this author. I don’t often start a review with the ending of a book but my word, I can’t help it. The author’s parting shot still rings in my ears, much like the scene that ended book two of the Mount Trilogy. If you have a craving for an excellent cliff hanger - then all your prayers are answered here. I loved it, it’s been so long since a cliffy delivered that kind of hit, one you need to revel in.Defiant Queen picks up exactly where Ruthless King left off so there’s no waiting around or trying to piece parts of the story together. What I wasn’t so keen on in book one, mellows a little in this offering - namely Lachlan. I’ve said it before; I’m not a huge fan of the dominant, controlling alpha males in books and Lachlan Mount is all that and more. When he sees something he wants, he takes. He makes it happen and he’s had poor Kiera Kilgore in his sights an awfully long time. What I found with his character in book two, was a softening. More emotion played a part for him and while Kiera is finding her backbone, Lachlan appears to be falling for her. He’s careful not to show it, doesn’t particularly like it but it’s the inevitable down slide for him I think. Kiera is going to bring him to his knees in most spectacular fashion.The author has written this wonderfully, seamlessly knitting together quite a few plot twists and beginning to unravel an intriguing storyline that will hold the attention of the reader from start to finish. There’s plenty of action which is described with intricacy so often times you ‘felt’ the scene unfolding around you. Emotions run heightened throughout although I didn’t feel an overbearing sense of oversaturation and they didn’t pull full weight until right at the end.I can’t wait for book three. I think it’s going to be explosive - for all the right reasons. Will Lachlan get his HEA?? I’m not sure, but it’s going to be fun reading the rest of their journey. Hugely recommended, I can’t fault this book or author in the slightest. Bring on Sinful Empire - and quickly, please!!
