This book is perfect for any person that is interested in learning a very simple but effective way to study the Bible. In this book, the author introduces the reader briefly to the common types of Bible studies and leads the reader through a simple but proper way of learning textual study of the Bible. The author leads the reader through the simple tools, methods and definitions required to effectively study any biblical scripture. However, the author doesn't stop there. Mr. Stevenson leads the reader through a study of Titus using the tools and methods, so that, the reader is able to follow easily the proper patterns used in textual study. I believe this book is excellent for the Bible study novice or even a seasoned Bible reader. I know that going through this book not only enhanced my Bible study, but it improved my understanding of reading and studying the Bible in its context.

This book is fabulous! If only it had been available years ago when I became a Christian I would have learned so much more from my Bible studies. Of course, it isn't too late and I encourage anyone who wants to better UNDERSTAND the Bible to buy this book. It will be the best money you will ever spend to help you in your future knowledge of God's word.

About the Author

John Simmons holds a B.A. in systematic ecology and an M.A. in Historical Administration and Museum Studies. In 1986, he completed the Collections Care Pilot Training Program (funded by the Bay Foundation) to become one of 30 people in the country to receive specialized training in conservation and collections care. He has spent a total of 30 years as collections manager in two of the largest collections of fluid preserved specimens in the United States (the California Academy of Sciences and the Biodiversity Research Center at the University of Kansas). He has published extensively on collections care topics and conducted seminars, workshops, and training programs in the US, Latin America, Asia, the Middle East, and Europe on the care of natural history collections (his previous publications include the AAM standard reference on collections management policies).

Great Comprehensive book on a very niche field that i love. finding info, especially on vintage collection techniques is very hard online, as are new techniques. this book gives a full range of history, practice and science to a sadly dying field. it reads very much like the textbook it is, but full of great information.

This is a perfectly fine mystery thriller, but in a way, it suffers from how good it's predecessor was. The plot of this book was fairly predictable, although there were a few twists here and there. By the middle of the book, you pretty much knew who was who and what was what. That doesn't necessarily make it a bad read. My real complaint about the book is the characters seemed way underdeveloped. Part of it is that there are way to many of them, so none really get their fair due. The other is that in the first Decker novel, so much time is spent getting to know Decker's mind, and in this novel, you don't really get to know anybody. Each individual seems like they've been put in place to fill the archetypes needed for a mystery novel. I didn't really care about any of them, and I wasn't afraid for any of them. So, it's a fun read, but Baldacci has done much better. This novel felt more like a script. You almost needed actors to exude emotion, otherwise, everybody either felt like they had none, or they were cartoonish. I think it would make a better movie than book.

I ran across David Baldacci's book "The Hit", a Will Robie novel, while planning a trip to Florida. I don't read often because I rarely find an author that keeps my attention. I didn't have any issues with this author. I finished The Hit in 3 days, went to a local store and bought "Memory Man", the first of the Amos Decker books. I finished that in another 3 days. Half-way in I decided to order The Last Mile because I didn't want down time in between books. I can't put these things down. It's like Jason Bourne meets Criminal Minds (though Amos Decker is far from Jason Bourne). The writing is just captivating. Every time I finish a chapter and want to maybe put the book down, I just immediately start reading the next chapter. I love how he writes in short chapters because it's so much more enticing to say "let me read these next 6 pages" and the next thing you know you are 60 pages in and hooked. I'm going to read every one of his books because I'm sure I won't find one I don't enjoy.

I have read all of David Baldacci's books and this one is another winner. Amos Decker is such an unusual character that he completely fascinated me. After a head injury playing football, he can forget nothing which makes him an excellent detective. He is unusual in that he is obese, out of shape and socially awkward but a very likable character. The supporting characters were well developed and believable and the plot had so many twists that it made me dizzy. I couldn't put the book down and read it late into the night to see what surprise the next page would bring and was completely surprised by the ending. Loved it!I highly recommend this book even if you haven't read the first book in the series, "Memory Man," as this one can stand alone. I'll be ordering book 3 for my Kindle now.

Excellent history and sense of where we are as a nation and what we need to do to return to common sense and our Constitutional liberties. This book states its case very clearly with lots of info.

As some other reviewers have mentioned- this is not one of this author's best work. Liked the main character and plot was somewhat believable, but just didn't have that special adventure. I sometimes wonder if these talented authors sometimes use other writers to write parts of the story. Like James Patterson, who just writes for the money in my estimation and whoi won't read anymore.

A dark reality exists in our world, and that is the fact any time a human or government wishes to impose its view of what would make a perfect society, millions end up suffering and dying. Murray does an incredible job showcasing the regimes, tyrants, philosophies, and inevitable consequences that have decimated entire populations in the desire to create in their mind, a utopia. furthermore, he awakens the reader to the very dangers within our own government and country and how we as citizens who have been blessed with Liberty must not stand idly by while elites look to take our freedoms away one regulation at a time. Worth the read. Recommending to anyone I can because of the truth inside the pages.

I believe Baldacci writes well, but too often. It is easy to create a premise that will draw readers in. It is more difficult to construct a series of believable events that explain the premise. This takes time and a good editor, neither of which are apparent in this book. For example, Baldacci has the protagonist sent to death row by his father who thinks this is the best way to protect him. In retrospect, the son would have been a high NFL draft choice and could have more hired more than sufficient security. Baldacci also has the son's car die right in front of a motel, but does not explain how this could be done--pre-Google. Then there is the house where a murder was committed that has sat untouched for twenty years. Perhaps Baldacci paid the property taxes so the house would not got to auction. If you read fast enough (Evelyn Wood x 10) that you don't notice the holes in the plot, you could enjoy this book. Last Mile proves that fast paced chapters do not necessarily make a good book.

I am usually a big fan of D. Baldacci's books but...not so much The Last Mile. I thought the main characters were well developed but the plot line did not ring true to me especially Lucinda. I am looking forward to Amos Decker and Melvin Mars coming together again.

Daughter said boring but interesting

My 10 year old daughter loved this book. She learned some great information about the subject.

During WWII, as more and more men were going overseas to serve in the armed forces fighting, the US Army and Navy started secretly recruiting women to work as code breakers. This book outlines how the programs started, how the women were covertly recruited, what kind of work they did, what living and working conditions were like for these women, and how some of their lives were changed forever by their wartime jobs.A fascinating look at women code breakers in the US during WWII. Mundy highlights some real women and the kind of work they did as she tells broader stories of the work women were doing for the Army and Navy at home related to code breaking. She also explains the kind of work involved in code breaking and major achievements of US women in this field during the war. Due to the secretive nature of the work and the fact that the women were sworn to secrecy for life, many of these stories are just now leaking out as WWII becomes a very distant memory and the US has decided to let certain secrets out. This is the young readers edition and at times you could tell that the writing had been pared down to just the basics for kid readers, it seemed like some details had been left out and it was a little dryer than expected. (I'm curious enough I may read the adult version at some point.) For the most part, though, this was fascinating stuff and highlights women figuring out that their mathematical and analytical skills were valuable at a time when that was unheard of. It also talks a great deal about what all is involved in code breaking, so it should appeal to those who like codes and puzzles. This is a great companion read to Hidden Figures for those who like reading about women in math fields. Also recommended to those who like unique aspects of WWII history.Notes on content: No language issues that I remember. No sexual content. War casualties and deaths are mentioned but not described in any graphic details.

Miriam Katin is a Hungarian-born Holocaust survivor who lives with her husband in New York. She is an artist and her husband is a musician. Born in 1942 in Budapest, Miriam and her mother went into hiding in the Hungarian countryside, posing as a Christian woman and her daughter, after the Germans invaded the country in 1944. She has written a previous book, "We Are On Our Own", which depicts in graphic-style the life she and her mother lived til the war was over.I haven't read many graphic novels; Katin's might be the fifth or sixth. I can't really comment on the art except to say it is drawn mostly in pencil - both gray and colored - and is very appealing to the eye. The story, though, is what really sets "Letting It Go" off from many works of Holocaust literature.Miriam Katin's book is about the journey she made - both in body and in spirit - to the city of Berlin, first in 2005 and another trip a year or so later. She had grown up as a hater of Germany and all things German. (And who would blame her?) When she was in her late 60's, her son, Ilan, told her and her husband that he had decided to settle in Berlin and was trying to adopt EU citizenship. Would she claim him as the child of a Hungarian citizen so he could claim EU status. (Even though Katin had US citizenship, she was still considered Hungarian by her place-of-birth. The exact details of this are a bit sketchy in the book.) Faced with examining her past by Ilan's request and talking it over with her mother - the woman who had saved her life during the war - she decided to go through the onerous process of the paperwork. Next up was a trip to Berlin with her husband to visit her son and his girlfriend.The balance of the book/art is about her visits to Berlin. She is very upfront with how uncomfortable both the run up to the trips and the trips themselves were to her. But she opens up both her mind and her heart and sees Berlin as it has become in the last 20 or so years. One of the places that she visits is the "Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe". You may have seen pictures of it; it's the field off the Unter den Linden, near the Brandenburg Gate, with a hundreds of square stelae of differing heights. What this field is supposed to "mean" is open to question, but the memorial underneath is THE thing to see. Because this underground museum, or memorial, was built by the German government and the title is a testimony to their commitment to talk about and examine their past and admit, frankly, what went on under their watch. "Murdered Jews" - the title and the museum contents say it all. (There are other museums and monuments to others killed in the Holocaust as well; one to the murdered gay and lesbian communities is across the street from the one I'm referring to.)Miriam Katin writes and draws about the modern Berlin and how, slowly, she came to adjust her thinking and "let go" of some of her previous prejudices. Maybe the book spoke to me because the city of Berlin has "spoken" to me on my five or so trips there in the past 20 years. And maybe it spoke to me because I admired Miriam and her "journey" to an uncomfortable past that she was able to face down. I've made this review more "personal" than most of the ones I write because Katin's book provoked those feelings in me. The combination of words and drawing gives her book a close-to-the heart feeling.She appears to have ended her trips to Berlin (the second was a trip to see some of her work featured in an art exhibit) with a new feeling of acceptance. It's quite a book.

Love it

This book was recommended to me by a daily newsletter I get called "Jewniverse." This was my first graphic novel, but it didn't do much for me. I felt that the story wasn't very gripping despite the content. The illustrations are very good and help the story, but the plot itself wasn't as riveting as I had hoped.

I welcome Ms. Katin's honesty in sharing her personal story. The drawings were superior. Will be following her career and looking forward to see her other works.

Her talk about the book and its subject inspired me to purchase the book. However, her book covered the same material as her talk which was infused with more humor and pathos than the book itself. Her drawings were often effective, but the book lacked power. Although I read Maus, I am a newcomer to this artform and therefore may lack the requisite enthusiasm and appreciation.

Like several books I have reviewed before this one, the artist used to work for Disney. (Being a struggling cartoonist; I HAVE considered working for Disney a few times, but I want to do my own stuff instead.)Drawn without panels in skillful colored pencils, the elderly narrator tells her story about living in New York City (not always glamorous), learning that her only son now lives in Berlin, Germany with his new girlfriend, and having ugly memories about that city, too.The narrator had escaped from her birthplace, Hungary during the darkest days of WWII (presumably as a baby?) So naturally, she gets very upset about her kid deciding to make a home in the very same area where her Jewish people had been ruthlessly killed by the Nazi.But her son, her husband, her friends, even her former lover, etc., etc. tell her to snap out of it and BE happy for the young couple's future.So the poor narrator swallows her pride and helps her son obtain a Hungarian citizenship and even flies to Berlin with her husband to visit him. In spite of her fears, Berlin of today turns out to be a beautiful, modern city with great food, sights, attractions, etc. as well as museums and monuments to honor the Jewish victims. This helps the narrator relax a little and actually enjoy herself in spite of everything. Not only that; she even hurries right back to Berlin at her own expense to see her own work exhibited at a local art museum (and it has turned out to be a big disappointment for her, however.)Nevertheless, it's like the whole world doesn't care about the narrator's personal feelings or experiences with the past, so she has to force herself to get over it. (Yes, yes, we all know Berlin is now a pretty fairyland full of happy people, but this doesn't mean war crimes that happened there are not stern reminders that can't ever be trivialized and are now permanent part of our human history.)In addition, I am truly sorry that she is married to an arrogant, uncaring husband and that she has to put up with his rude remarks for YEARS, too!Pretty frank and even raw storytelling that even includes frontal nudity of an aged woman as well as gross scenes like a graphic C-section and tidal-wave diarrhea - all done in eye-pleasing color sketches.
