The book is NOT what I expected. However it is well-written, very interesting, and quite funny.I get the feeling if Ms. Brooks hadn't had such a crazy perspective on things, her tough life growing up could have directed her towards a life filled with drugs and tragedy. Luckily for us, her super power propelled her to heights most people only dream of achieving.This book will disappoint wrestling fans looking for numerous wrestling anecdotes. Ms. Brooks does tell readers about her career in the wrestling world, but she doesn't dwell on it. Yes, being a wrestler did consume a lot of her time when she decided to seriously make it a career. However it is clear her career didn't dominate her world. She valued family and friends much more than anything else. That's why she was able to walk away from wrestling at the peak of her career. Marriage to her husband Phil outweighed anything the WWE could ever offer. After all, how can you put a price on living happily ever after?

This isn't the book I expected it to be. This isn't a tell-all book about her time in the WWE, or even a compendium of wrestling anecdotes. This is more an in-depth look at how upbringing and mental illness can shape a person's life. A.J.'s life had the capacity to turn out a much darker tale and while she never delves into it deeply, she uses her mother's struggles with MI to show how hers could have turned out.AJ is an engaging writer, and the tone of the book is conversational, bouncing around a bit, though the book mostly flows out in a chronological order. The bulk of the book is focused around her childhood and pre-wrestling time, and the wrestling is treated as any other job, more o fa backdrop to further the book than a focus.I thought it was interesting how few wrestlers are name checked in the book. Punk, Daniel Bryan, Dolph Ziggler, Kane, John Cena, and Fit Finlay on the male side, Kaitlyn, Naomi, Layla, Beth Phoenix, Michelle McCool on the female. Especially interesting to me are who isn't mentioned, specifically the Bellas or Paige.THe book shines the most when AJ hits a topic which she feels passionately about. Whether it be the fact that Bipolar isn't something she sees as a negative but part of her that's shaped her life, street harassment, self-image, etc. the writing flows and you can get caught up in her passion. It's an incredible feeling.I'd recommend this novel for anyone who is struggling with MI, especially who is Bipolar. It could also be a great book to show kids how with hard work and utter dedication to a task you can achieve a dream, even with setbacks

Unlike other wrestlers who have released autobiographies through the years, AJ Lee chooses not to dish out any dirt (at least not a lot of it) on the backstage politics of the wrestling business. As many reviewers have pointed out, "Crazy Is My Superpower" focuses instead on April Mendez the person, a young woman who grew up in poverty, raised by a mother who suffered from bipolar disorder and a father who dealt with his share of personal demons. She's also very open about her own struggles with bipolar disorder, and how wrestling, first as a fan and then as an actual competitor, had helped change her life for the better. And all these tales are told with the wit and humor you'd expect from one of the smartest and most talented female wrestlers to ever set foot in a WWE ring.Whether you're a dedicated wrestling fan like myself, a casual fan, or even a non-fan, this book is sure to capture your interest. Kudos to you, AJ, for your triumph over bipolar disorder, as well as writing one of the best wrestling books I've read in a while.

I honestly was not much of a fan of her's initially (I still loved wrestling before, during, and after her time in WWE; same love for other wrestling promotions throughout time). Amy Dumas/Lita and Trish Stratus have always been among my favorite women wrestlers (The Undertaker is my all time favorite among the men); A.J. has proven she is as great as them. Since her retirement, I actually grew fondness for her work and was curious of what she is like as a person. What she has written pierces me as a human, a man, and wrestling fan. There were some aspects I think I genuinely connected with her more than I imagined and to be in touch with her humanity. I have interests in Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil as she does in the video game aspect (of course it includes wrestling games too). Deep down, there are other factors, which did hit me a bit more, while reading like the chaotic relationship with her family; it sometimes reminds me of my own biological family's disconnect with me, but we do mostly get along. We both have many health problems as individuals and our own family members have their own. I loved numerous references A.J. makes throughout her book (a Harry Potter one for example), which informs me of my love for Mystery Science Theater 3000 (one of my favorite television shows of all time next to The Simpsons among certain others; she does happen to like The Simpsons also). I was interested in how she talked about women's issues; her understanding of how girls are socially conditioned in our culture and her encounters in everyday life. The most impact I experienced reading was how she discussed her mental illness; making it her strength just like I have with my lead poisoning since I was an infant. Overall, I think everything turned out nicely for this book; it has its own charm and sophistication. A.J. says to simply be un-apologetically yourself and I absolutely agree. Thank you.

This is a really good book. It gave a lot of insight on her and her life. There is not a ton about her wrestling career but some.

I haven't been able to put this book down since I got it. It makes me so happy to see someone trying to help break the mental illness stigma. Reading about AJ and her mother both struggling with mental illness makes me feel better to know I'm not alone with my suffering. AJ is such a strong person, where most people would have given up, she pushed on and achieved her dreams. This is a must read for not only the wrestling fan, but anyone who struggles with mental illness.

Among the books many virtues is its rational analysis of the claims made by transgender advocates--mind you, not necessarily transgender people--about the human person, sex, gender, the mind, and personal identity. Anderson debunks the common myth that deferring to a person's sincerely professed sense of self is ALWAYS the morally and scientifically correct course of action. Especially when it comes to kids, evidence that gender transition is the best or only course of action is simply not there. On the contrary, what little we know--and we truly know very little--strongly suggests that caution is required. But given the high stakes of the issue (advocates claiming that merely to question their claims is to encourage kids' suicides), the media attention, the culture war framing, and the intervention of civil rights officials, caution and circumspection are sorely missing.So far as I can tell, there are many denunciations of Anderson as a bigot and symbolic book burnings by trans advocates. What there is not, is a sustained, rational and sincere effort by Anderson's critics to engage his arguments. Not that that matters in America of 2018, where the buzzwords of identity politics ("inclusive," "diversity," "lived experience") trump both clear thinking and civic disagreement. One can only hope that there are at least some open minded people out there who are genuinely interested in hearing the arguments and the evidence before making up there minds as to whether it is a good idea for schools, psychiatrists and the state to urge five year old children to use puberty blocking drugs. Personally, I am as supportive of adult transgender rights like nondiscrimination in employment and housing as I am sickened by the abuse of children at the hands of gender ideologues. Progressives, who live constantly under the fear of the judgment of History, should think long and hard about how History will judge those who are complicit in this crime.If there is one flaw in this book, it is that Anderson does not adequately engage with the issues of transgender rights in employment, housing, healthcare, government services, and the military. In employment for instance, I can think of no good reason why an employer should be allowed to fire or refuse to promote someone simply because they are transgender. Granted, this is not Anderson's topic; but signaling to rational and compassionate critics of trans-kids ideology how these issues differ from one another would have been theoretically important and probably politically prudent.

Thought I'd give the author a try even though I looked him up and knew I differed with him on many issues. The book started out well with information we should all know to try to come up with our own views on this topic. But as the book went on the agenda became clear. Anti feminists, anti marriage and parenting that is not just hetero (hardly touches at all on gay marriage or gay parented families), male/female and preferably christian. He defends Mike Pence and has sexist, anti-feminist views. The agenda is a typical white, male, traditional hetro christian views, so if you are all of that, you'll love seeing a biased book that fits your own views. But if you want to actually learn about the multiple kinds of families, parenting, child rearing, and sexual preferences that actually exist in the world, I suggest you look elsewhere as I plan to do. I read other reviews that voiced doubt that he wrote this book because he felt bad for those who de-transitioned. I also doubt that was the reason. The book clearly has an agenda that the author slowly walks you to, bit by bit, most likely hoping you'll see it his way in the end.

Ryan Anderson sets forth a compelling case about the potential harm of the rush to normalize the transgender movement and the rush to push children into hormone and sex reassignment surgery at a young age. Many have and will criticize his work as that of a transphobe, but that is not the case. He promotes tolerance and compassion for those suffering in this manner and presents well thought out arguments supporting his position.

Based on some of the reviews I was a bit skeptical. However, I found the author’s presentation to be credible, balanced and very informative. This book is an important voice in the conversation.

Reading Keto Built was very thorough on not only the background of Keto, but how to set yourself up for success. Not only did it handle the process of designing your diet through some simple steps it also listed some insights on if you have objectives get in your way. This is a great addition to the other books I’ve read in the Jailhouse Strong series. Definitely a must grab.

The problem with most "paleo" or ketogenic diet book is the BS content. I could rant about how they aren't honestly paleolithic or how I don't care about changing my lifestyle, but in trying to stay on topic, this book is a low drag guide to the use of a ketogenic diet. It summarizes the various types out, tells you how to calculate carbs allowed, and what you can eat - pretty much all the basics. Most importantly never loses sight of the fact we are doing this for a reason - the diet isn't the goal but a tool. The references are actual scientific journals, instead of someone's website. Probably the sanest and most comprehensive look I've seen. (Yeah. it's short. This isn't really that complex a topic).

The authors do a great job explaining the ketogenic diet in several variations. The book is informative and to the point. They don't use fluff or filler and lay everything out in terms that average people can understand and put to use immediately. They explain how this diet strategy can be used for cutting (getting leaner) or for building muscle. I've read some books on keto diets ranging from Dan Duchaine's Body Opus to Dr. Mauro DiPasquale's Anabolic Diet and this book ranks up there with any of them. It's a quick read and gives the reader everything needed to get started and includes some sample meal plans and a quick workout to help deplete glycogen to enter ketosis at a faster rate. The book is short, simple, and straightforward and, like their other books, backed up by science. I highly recommend getting this book if you are thinking of trying a ketogenic diet.

I've heard alot about the keto diet. Many claiming great things about it. And many others claiming it to be harmful. This book really clears the air in explaining the benefits of this diet and disproves the negative claims against it. If you do not know much about the keto diet this is a good source of information with explanation for what, why and how to do the keto diet. It's a short book but has a good amount of information. To get you started even goes into saying which foods are allowed and which ones to avoid. I would definitely recommend this for anyone who is interested in the keto diet but doesn't know where to begin. This will get you going.

The author is well regarded but this is the size of a paper you should be able to obtain for $3.00-$5 max. and emailed.I took one look and it's not much of anything I can't find on the web for free.And, hire a designer for the front covers of your books. Man, that's rougher in person.I gave it a pass hoping for more content, but all in all, it just added to the reason to return.You consume what you see as well.
