About the Author

Since its establishment in 1922, the American Football Coaches Association has striven to provide a forum for the discussion and study of all matters pertaining to football and coaching and to maintain the highest possible standards in football and the coaching profession. These objectives, first declared by founders Alonzo Stagg, John Heisman, and others, have been instrumental in the AFCA's becoming the effective and highly respected organization it is today.The AFCA now has more than 10,000 members, including coaches from Canada, Europe, Australia, Japan, and Russia. Through annual publications and several newsletters, the Association keeps members informed of the most current rules changes and proposals, proper coaching methods, innovations in techniques, insights in coaching philosophy, and business conducted by the board of trustees and AFCA committees. A convention is held each January to give members a special opportunity to exchange ideas and recognize outstanding achievement. Alot of the stuff here, was big years ago. If you're like me a fan, its fun to see wishbone and triple option attacks. I hope to coach, and for youth coaches, everything here is useful, so what if its out of style, even better, nobody in your league expects it. Some guys around the country wreck leagues with a Single Wing attack of the 1930's. There's no single wing here, btw. There's no Gus Malzahn or Art Briles here either. There's the option football that owned the NCAA of the past that GA tech still runs though. Think of these as all time greats doing a clinic.

I got this book when I started helping a Friend of mine coach his son's team. It's a good beginnning book for new coaches gives you a good idea of what would be a good to starting point to build a offense. Learned alot and so did the kids but that didn't stop us from getting the piss kicked out of us. Finished the season 2-8. Learned alot though and always next year

Many people watch football but this book delves into strategies and helps you understand what's going on beyond the obvious.

Really enjoy these books and have been through most of this one with my highlighter and pen. The only complaint I have is that many of the proceedings inside are taken from the 70s and 80s. Since many concepts are timeless I don't mind it completely, but would like to see a larger mix of more up to date material.

My husband gave this book to me for Christmas. I was consistently asking questions and he thought it would help me understand the game better. The book is spell binding. I believe it was written for football coaches and I am not acquiring some of the specific information. It is very interesting.

Great Book

As the head coach I developed a winning strategy that won championship after championship. I continued using the same strategy year after year, with only small changes. After a few surprise losses I realized I needed to look at what other coaches were finding successful and make some major updates. This book has been a big help. Thanks.

Purchased for my son who is now a high school football coach. He said the book was very useful.
