Dr. Orevillo-Montenegro's book is very readable. She pulls in scholarship from various denominations, genders, and countries of Asia. She does a beautiful job of showing how Asian women experience Jesus as loving despite the trauma of colonialist missionary activity. But, she also talks about missionaries that did some good work albeit with the a handicap of their own European upbringing. This book opened my eyes to the grace of God in the midst of harsh reality. It is a good book for those interested in theology off the well-worn Eurocentric male path.

This book was required reading for a class, so I went into it open-minded. Unfortunately, in the relationship between reader and author, I was the only one open minded. The author has nothing positive to say about Christianity, nor about anyone of the male persuasion. Highly offensive, ignorantly unprofessional, and dripping with undocumented generalizations.

Except for a strong attack on colonialism in the sense that Asian womens' oppression is the result of Christian missionary activity - as if non-Christian women are completely unoppressed and certainly were unoppressed as a class before Christianity - the same radical feminist christian (Catholic) theologian old tired arguments of the 1980s and 90s are dragged out in this book: why women should be ordained to the priesthood, why gay and lesbian persons should be ordained to the priesthood - enough said! Being a Phillipino one's first assumption is that she is a Catholic which fact is always a good opener for radical feminist theologians. Looking into her background whatever she may have started out as her training and CV would make that seem unlikely.If you are a committed feminist and wish re-inforcement in process theology, (outdated) liberation theology, and the wide area known as neo-gnosticism - go to it!

Christine shares the great good for us by showing how we can find fulfillment. Exampleslike the Blessed Virgin Mary & St. Hildegard of Bingen, we are free to pursue our deepest desires.Our bodies are our temples. We need to accept ours & rejoice that it holds our soul. The Divinegives us both to enjoy the blessings of this world with joy!

Currently using this book with a small group of women whose ages span four decades. The book's organization, suggested activities and balance of group discussion and private introspection have made this a great tool for us. So many wounds are being healed...lots of laughter and tears. I highly recommend this book.

I participated in a womens group & we absolutely loved this book! It was great for a group or to read alone. I loved the implementation of different techniques at the end of each chapter.

This is the most introspective and profound books on the connection between our body and soul that I have ever read. The authoris brilliant writing with words that are at times poetic and inspirational and using words of wisdom from a variety of traditions aswell as Christian scripture. I recommend it for anyone seeking truth and harmony within as well as a compassionate understandingof others. The author also has an awesome website Abbey of the Arts and offers a course using this book as text.

Christine Paintner writes well and helps gently guide you through a journey of self-acceptance. If you're a women stuggling with anxiety, guilt, and body-shame, I would highly recommend this. I appreciate the christian perspective and the poetry throughout the book.

lovely story and full color dynamic illustrations. I had to read and rereadthis and then go on a "where's waldo" hunt to see what my grandchildrennoticed.

I purchased this book for my church library on behalf of my girls group called "Miriam Circle". The book provides a terrific summary of the story of Miriam and the Passover. I highly recommend the book.

This is a "Terrific" book for children and people who knew very little about the story of Miriam. It explains in simple terms her importance in Passover.It held the attention of young and old alike but, it's really for the first time reader about Miriam.

This is a wonderful book. My children really enjoyed it, but my daughter just a little bit more than her brother. It was a pleasure to see my daughter realize that there are women that have made their mark on history.
