Sweet & simple telling of the creation of the earth from Genesis. Easy to understand for younger children. The are is beautiful in traditional Nancy Tillman style. I love that an image of God or His hand is hidden in every page. My kids had fun searching for the picture.

I love Nancy Tillman books and this one is no exception. Beautifully written and illustrated story of the beginning of life. We gave this to our children on Easter and enjoyed reading it to them all that morning.

Nice book, great letters from the authors but it wasn't long enough, nor did it give enough detail about the creation story. I realize it is a children's book but I just think you can and should have more substance, especially for something as beautiful as the story of creation, children can hang in for a longer story and I just think there was too much left out...I was left thinking that I couldn't believe that it had ended when there was so much left to tell...but what is there, is very well done.

This is the sweetest book. And it is beautifully decorated. It should be a classic that's on the shelf of every child. I bought it to read to my 6 yr old but it could be read to a much younger child and I don't think you could get too old for it

I read to my baby girl every day for hours during her colicky crying sessions. This book is one of my favorites. I love the creation story, but what really makes this book amazing is the beautiful illustrations.

I pre-ordered this book hoping it wouldn't turn out to be some strange version of the Biblical story of creation. It's sweet and lyrical but not to the extent of becoming cloying, at least to me. The illustrations are, as always with Nancy Tillman, a joy. The book basically follows the sequence of the creation story from Genesis.

I love all of Nancy Tillman's books, and I am a huge supporter of Desmond Tutu, so this book had been on my wishlist since it first went public. I was not disappointed. Some people were upset that the words are not directly from the Bible, however, then it would not be the words of Desmond Tutu. This is a book that he wrote to explain creation, and it is beautiful!

We LOVE Nancy Tillman books. Purchased this for a baby shower gift and the family loves it! Beautiful illustrations, great story!

André Gide was a French writer who lived from 1869 to 1951. He was raised in a conservative social environment in Normandy, and in his adult years traveled extensively through France's colonial possessions in Africa, writing several books about his experiences there, including this one, which was published in 1906. The setting is in Tunisia and Algeria, and I have had an interest in both countries, particularly the latter, so I felt this book would be of interest. In 1947 Gide received the Nobel Prize for Literature.The title refers to a Greek shepherd boy in Virgil: Eclogues (Cambridge Greek and Latin Classics). It tells the story of the shepherd Corydon who "burned with love for the beautiful Alexis." It contains the lines "Piping beside me in the woods you'll mimic Pan" and "You'd not be sorry when the reed calloused your lips: What pains Amyntas took to master this same art." Hum! Gide defended pederasty in his 1920 book, Corydon, which he considered his most famous work.No question the author is enthralled with the brilliant sun-drenched landscape of Algeria, a sharp "depaysément" from the "gris" of his native Normandy. He can wax lyrical with descriptive passages such as: "wild pomegranate intolerably acrid with aromatic astringencies"; and, "syrupy figs, and grapes both violet and golden, so sweet I could eat only four, the rest I gave to children." My favorite is "an avalanche of sun." Now, why had I never thought of that before? But the book is an eclectic mix of highly impressionist wanderings, seemingly random and with no purpose. How much of the West's perception of the Muslim world is shaped by men who are enthralled by far more than the "sun-drenched landscapes?" It is the release from the much more constrictive social morals at home; men like Wilfred Thesigner, T.E. Lawrence, and André Gide, all in pursuit of their Pan, with an exotic backdrop, and without a consideration as to why they are so much more available in these locales. 3-stars for Gide's effort.

Awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1947, Gide's notations are four separate texts documented by year and place. Translation from the original French is done by Richard Howard, a Pulitzer Prize winner and noted translator.

Very fun read and solid science, just 2 notes: His estimates on the Drake equation tell us Mars 100% has had life. Also I understand stars twinkle from our atmosphere, rather than interstellar medium. But the Drake equation estimate was enlightening, giving 7 alien civilizations in our galaxy waiting for a call, though an estimate of none in our galaxy is more reasonable to me.

Covers the most interesting bits of science with a sense of humor. Everything from atom smashers to how to bake a cake like a real scientist, to watching out for asteroids. Ben Miller really likes science and it comes through in his writing. (Amazing how fun science is when you don't have to study for a test on Monday.)

Fairly engaging so far, but chatty in a sort of 'assuming reader-anxiety'-way. Stops just shy of arrogance, so still readable, but the author spends more time telling the reader that things are mind-blowing, when he could maybe just blow our minds by really getting into what he's been talking around. Maybe he'll get there. If he does, I'll come back and say so. I promise.

This is a brilliantly written science book for both scientists and non-scientists alike. Ben Miller does an excellent look at major science areas and topics relevant to today's society and science community alike. I highly recommend this book to everyone, the only thing I would recommend even more is the Audio book, with Ben's intended tone and unique flavor of comedy added it makes for a wonderful listen.

I thoroughly liked this book. Even though I have read many science books, this has been one of the most fun as well as nicely informative about a number if topics close to my heart including climate change and evolution.

This author is the best for science fun! He was wonderful to watch as the actor/comedian and to learn about his physics studies was a real bonus! I haven't finished this yet, but look forward to reading every day!

A great concept book to help explain some of the more advance topics of physics. It can be a little hard to follow if you only read a few sections at a time, it is best to read the whole chapter so all the info is fresh in your mind. Ben Miller does a great job making it fun and keeps your interests.

There are a few authors who can make even complicated subjects easy and obscure subjects fun, and Ben Miller is one of them. I understand he's working on a book about space science and exploration now. I want it.

This book desperately needs a more comprehensive index (what's 5-10 pages more in such a thick book?). As is, it's not very user-friendly with such a basic index. I wasn't able to locate some very popular areas while in Costa Rica, even after thumbing through that entire section of the book. I tried to use the book in three different Central American countries but got so frustrated that I finally purchased Lonely Planet on my Kindle.

I hope to be touring Central America

Great book, covers each country in Central America in enough detail for a month long trip that I took during Dec/Jan 2012/2013. Looked at this and the Lonely Planet in a store, and this seemed to be much better for what I wanted out of a travel book. Good detail on all the capitals, only wished there was more on things like snorkeling companies in Belize and things like that. For that information, go to a website like tripadvisor and see which company is the highest rated.

Just what I need to get me from town to town, across borders and get lightly oriented with my destinations of choice

Better then I expected. Covered more countries then I thought it did. As it turned out, that has been very helpful. I am happy with the book. It is hard to find budget travel information that covers almost everything.

In the past i bought lonely planet but i founded on rough guide and excellent alternative, well inform, good maps and reviews.
